I've been trying to figure out how to post about my latest acting workshop with Hallie and her husband Glenn Withrow without sounding like a total suck-up (since I know they'll probably read this), and so far I haven't had much luck. I just reread my journal entry that I wrote the day after the workshop, and I was extremely liberal in my use of adjectives, all along the lines of "amazing, great, fantastic, brilliant." I guess I'll just write and hope it doesn't sound too overdone. Know, though, that I mean every word.
First of all, meeting Glenn was great. He and Hallie are both such kind, brilliant people and teachers. They seem to have this sixth sense that allows them to know exactly what technique will help each actor in a particular scene.
This workshop's focus was on acting for the camera. I had a lot of information thrown at me, and I tried to take notes like crazy, but I'm still feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything. I learned loads, including the fact that this is hard (I mean, I knew it was already . . . but it just sort of hit me more that day), and I have so much to learn, and most of all that I love every minute of it. The whole experience was completely phenomenal. To have my passion for acting grow even larger than it already had been (as impossible as that sounds) was incredible.
Equally cool was the time we were able to spend talking to them (and their sweet daughter) afterward. (I drove up with a couple of friends, and their dad was late picking us up.) I had this really surreal feeling as I sat there with them. The fact that I was with these two Hollywood actors, being taught by them and talking to them (it is so inspiring talking to fellow show-biz people); this opportunity I was having - I felt so blessed. The whole day was so stimulating; I wanted it to go on and on. Thank you, Glenn and Hallie, for giving us non-LA folk a chance like this, and for sharing so much with us. You guys rock.
